Play is Children's Work
Play is children’s work and is where they learn about themselves, others and their world.
The experience of free, fun child-led play is where the seeds of joy and wonder in living and learning are sewn.
Our busy, busy lives, with so much to choose from and competing priorities has moved free play time well down the list and we want to bring playtime back!
That's why we are calling all kids, parents, families and friends to take the Play Challenge! We sponsor our kids to read, walk, jump - let’s get back to basics and encourage them to Play!
The TBO Playathon inspires and motivates kids to rediscover their love of play. To get up, get active, get creative, get together with playmates and GET OFF THOSE SCREENS!
Our INCLUSIVE Playathon
Aussie kids love to help each other and they know it's not fair that some kids get to play and others don’t. Just like many other fundraising initiatives aren’t possible for all kids to participate in.
The TBO Playathon is an opportunity for ALL kids to participate. No matter your age, interests, where you live or what your circumstances - you can play!
Registration is free - and even if you pledge no funds, you are still contributing to getting our Aussie kids play hours up!
Kids who have chosen to Play for Play and to raise funds are contributing to the work of the Playmakers at TBO who continue to support greater play opportunities for everyone to improve the health, happiness and well-being of Aussie kids and create a more inclusive world through play.

Playing
What is considered Free Play?
There are no limits to your choices or types of play – There is only one rule – ALL PLAY MUST BE UNPLUGGED! Yep – that’s device free!
Switch it up, Switch it round but switch it OFF!
Play can be alone or with others. Inside or outside. Active or passive. It can be with toys and games and equipment. Physical, creative and imaginative… or a mixture of all of these. As long as it’s fun and device free!
Anytime you spend playing, log that time to build your hours spent playing!
I use an electronic device to communicate, can I use this when I am playing?
Of course! We all communicate in different ways – but we ALL love to play!
Can I play with my child during the TBO Playathon?
Yes! We absolutely encourage parents and care givers to play. Teach your kids some good old favourites or learn some new games together. The TBO Playathon is all about re-igniting a love of play and raising money for to create more play opportunities for those who don’t get to play.
When do I start playing?
You can start logging your play hours for the TBO Playathon from 1 June 2024!
You can start playing earlier, but technically, the TBO Playathon is to play as much as you can, throughout June and July.
How do I log hours I’ve played?
Log into your personal TBO Playathon account that was created when you registered. Here you can go to the Play Time section to log activities and hours played.
Parents
I registered multiple kids and have received one of my kids welcome packs but not the others. Where are they?
As a charity TBO qualifies for Charity Mail which means we can send out packs at a more cost-effective rate. However, sending multiple packs together means we do not meet the dimension restrictions to qualify for Charity Mail. Therefore, each child's welcome pack will be sent out individually and will begin to be distributed within 4 weeks of you completing registrations, packs can take 2 to 3 weeks to arrive. Packs should arrive within a week of each other, however don't hesitate to contact the team at info@touchedbyolivia.org.au if you have any questions regarding this. Thank you for your understanding.
Teachers
How can I enquire about a school visit?
We would love to come and speak with your school how playing together creates a more inclusive world. Our amazing Storytime Storytellers (reading, singing books, dancing and craft), Joey and Nalyn would love to visit your school. Read more about this here (link to info)
Do you have any resources available to help teachers?
Yes, absolutely! Please check out the teacher resources section of the website.
